Tokai Springy Sound ST-85 • 1981 • Gold Metallic • Modified


This 1981 Tokai Springy Sound ST-85 was made in Japan and retains its original Gold Metallic finish. It is a substantially modified vintage example configured for modern player use. The body appears to be sen (Japanese ash), based on the grain visible in exposed wood areas, although this identification remains probable rather than confirmed.
It retains its original body, neck, finish, three Tokai grey-bottom “E” stamped pickups, tuners, 5-way selector, brass shielding/grounding plate and one original tone pot. The neck has a V profile. The fingerboard has been substantially re-radiused/flattened to approximately 20", and the guitar has been refretted with jumbo frets. The original tremolo has been replaced by a Super-Vee BladeRunner with Mag-Lok stabilizer.


The electronics have been modified with a Fender S-1 volume control and ToneStyler control. With the S-1 up, the guitar operates in a standard Stratocaster configuration; with the S-1 pushed, the Omni mode activates the bridge pickup in every selector position. The original Tone 1 pot remains installed but is disconnected. The body and pickguard have also been cut at the neck joint to provide direct truss-rod access. These are permanent modifications, and the guitar should be considered a player-grade vintage instrument rather than a fully original collector example.


A rectangular hardshell case in as-new condition is included.
