Rodebald Hoyer Jazz Star – Circa 1960s

Rodebald Hoyer was one of the notable German archtop builders of the post-war era. Based in Bavaria, he is associated with the Bubenreuth tradition, a region known for producing high-quality archtop guitars for jazz and popular music throughout Europe. The Jazz Star is among his most recognized archtop models.

This instrument features its original solid spruce top paired with laminated flame maple back and sides. The construction delivers a warm, balanced acoustic response with clear projection, characteristic of well-built European archtops from this period.

The pickguard is not original and houses both the pickup and the volume and tone controls. The guitar has been inspected, set up, and adjusted by Montréal Guitar. The refret with tall fretwire was performed previously. It is in excellent playing condition, offering comfortable action and accurate intonation. The instrument comes with a padded soft case.

An expressive and musical archtop, well suited for jazz, swing, and chord-melody playing, and a compelling European alternative to American archtops of the same era.
